Some Congregations Are Converting to Electronic Donations
Instead of passing the plate, churches are harnessing the power of technology to take up their collections. Brian Walsh, President of Faith Direct Incorporated, realizes that some congregations are taking a leap of faith by converting to electronic giving: "Understanding the fact that most people have been giving to their individual churches by check for 50-60 years and this is the natural evolution of church collections, if you will. We convert people from the envelope system to direct debit." Russell Davis Director of Stewardship says the Camden Diocese went digital two years ago: "There is no question that the mission of church is to welcome our youth and young families and their way of life in a modern world and by electronically doing more and more, we want them to feel at home and feel welcome.”
